貝多芬是一位咖啡狂熱者，除了自己沖咖啡之外，也總是往咖啡館跑。他每天清晨定要來一杯黑咖啡再開始一天的工作。據記載，他使用玻璃的咖啡壺來沖煮咖啡，方式極為刁鑽，而且使用的咖啡豆數量不多不少，一定要是60顆整。 

「咖啡感覺在貝多芬的一餐之中是不可或缺的，而且他準備咖啡的方式，有一種奇異的講究。他會計算杯子裡的六十顆咖啡，通常會數出聲音來，特別是當客人在場的時候...」
